This is the technology that motivated the beginning of Humanchine Company. The first product to use the technology was a bicycle "dropper" seat post.  

This invention was created when Alion Energy contracted Humanchine Company to create a solar tracker with the lowest volume of steel per panel area. The "Storm Lock" technology, coined by Alion Energy, is a method to eliminate torque on the panel tilting actuator when the panels are in their "lock" position. This saves a tremendous amount of cost in the solar tracker because the wind loads under stow wind conditions can be more than 8 times the loads during operational wind conditions. This is a non-obvious solution to decrease the costs of the actuator of the solar tracker as well as decrease the amount of steel in the entire racking system.

The desirability  of this invention became apparent when variations of it were immediately adopted by competitors in the space. Competitors that use the technology include Schletter and H-fang (Jiangyin Huafang New Energy Hi Tech Equipment Co Ltd).
